What's Included at Marlow's on the Kenai? Complete Guide

THE FULL BREAKDOWN: WHAT YOU GET WITH EVERY CABIN STAY

Most Alaska lodge websites have vague amenity lists and "starting at" pricing. This isn't that. This is a straight breakdown of everything included at Marlow's on the Kenai when you book a cabin — what's in your space, what's on the property, what we coordinate for you, and what's extra.

If you're comparing Marlow's against other lodges, use this as a checklist. If you're already planning a trip, this is what to expect when you arrive.

YOUR CABIN: PRIVATE, RIVERFRONT, FULLY EQUIPPED

Each of our 4 cabins includes:

Riverfront location with private dock: You can walk from your cabin door to the Kenai River in under a minute. Each cabin has its own dock on the river — no sharing access points, no walking to public launches, no crowds at dawn.

Full kitchen: Stove, oven, full-size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, full cookware and utensils, dishes, knives, cutting boards. You can cook anything you'd cook at home. Your fresh-caught salmon on the cabin grill an hour after it came out of the river is a top-three meal you'll have this decade.

Bedrooms and bathrooms: Our cabins sleep 4 to 6 guests comfortably (one 6-person cabin, three 4-person cabins). Real beds with real linens. Private bathrooms with hot showers.

Living space: TV, seating, dining table. Not hotel-room minimal. Cabins are sized to actually live in for a week.

Heat and climate: Full heating for cooler mornings and evenings. May and September mornings get chilly — you'll appreciate it.

Wifi: Included. You can work, check weather, share photos, and check your flight home.

Gas grill on the deck: For grilling your catch. Propane included.

Parking: Right at your cabin door. No shared lot, no shuttle.

See our cabin details and photos for a closer look at each one.

FISHING GEAR: EVERYTHING INCLUDED, NOTHING TO RENT

Most lodges charge a daily gear rental fee. We don't. All of this is included at no extra cost with your cabin stay:

Rods and reels: Spinning gear and conventional setups suited to Kenai River salmon and trout fishing. Enough variety to handle sockeye, silvers, trout, and small halibut.

Tackle: Weights, hooks, swivels, leader, line, and starter lure selection. Restock is cheap at the tackle shop in Soldotna.

Waders and wading boots: Multiple sizes. Essential for bank fishing the Russian River confluence or the Kenai during sockeye peak.

Nets and landing gear: Oversized landing nets for kings and halibut.

Coolers and ice: For day trips and transport. Large chest coolers on the property.

What you bring: Polarized sunglasses, your own rain gear, layered clothing, and your Alaska fishing license (buy online before you travel).

THE ON-SITE AMENITIES THAT ACTUALLY SAVE YOU MONEY

These are the amenities that cut hundreds of dollars off your Alaska fishing trip cost — and most lodges either charge for them or don't have them.

Fish cleaning station: Fillet knives, running water, stainless tables, hose-down drainage. You clean your fish immediately after catching, in minutes, at the property. Commercial processing in town costs $3-6 per pound — most guests save $300-600 by cleaning on-site.

Vacuum sealers: Industrial-grade. Seal your fillets for freezer storage and shipping home.

Chest freezers: Multiple freezers on the property for fillet storage throughout your stay. No paying a processor for storage, no fighting for freezer space.

Fire pit and outdoor gathering area: For evening wind-down. Bring marshmallows.

Full property rental option: For groups, exclusive use of the entire lodge (all 4 cabins, all docks, fire pit, cleaning station). Up to 18 guests. Group rate saves significantly vs booking cabins separately.

See group rental details.

WHAT WE COORDINATE (NOT INCLUDED, BUT HANDLED)

Some things aren't "included" in the cabin price but we coordinate them so you don't have to research them yourself.

Guided fishing days: We work with a vetted network of Kenai guides. You tell us what you want (sockeye, silvers, trout, ocean, fly-out) and we book it with the right guide for your target species, skill level, and party size. Rates are direct from the guides — we don't mark them up.

Ocean charters: Halibut, lingcod, and saltwater salmon out of Homer, Seward, and Ninilchik. We coordinate the booking, the boat, the departure time, and the transport if needed.

Fly-out day trips: Bush plane day trips to remote rivers for those who want that experience. We book with trusted pilots and guides.

Multi-day packages: If you want a fully scripted trip, our fishing packages bundle cabin, guide days, ocean charters, and fly-outs into pre-built itineraries.

What's NOT coordinated: Your flights to Anchorage and your rental car — easy enough to book direct. We can recommend a good mid-size SUV rental company if you ask.

NOT INCLUDED (KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK)

To keep pricing honest:

Flights to Anchorage: You book these yourself. ANC is the nearest major airport. Sterling is 2.5-3 hours south.

Rental car: You'll need one. Most guests book an SUV or truck.

Alaska fishing license: Required for every angler 16+. Buy online at ADF&G store before you arrive. $70 for a 7-day non-resident license; $145 for annual.

Groceries: Full Soldotna grocery stores 20 minutes away. Budget $175-300 per person per week.

Guide fees: Guide days are billed directly by the guide, typically $450-500 per boat for a Kenai drift trip (up to 3 anglers).

Fish shipping home: Many guests use FedEx or airline baggage with hard coolers. Budget $150-400 for shipping 50 pounds of fillets.

Alcohol: Bring your own or buy in Soldotna.

See our full cost breakdown for sample budgets.

WHY MARLOW'S (VS A HOTEL OR A $10K LODGE)

Vs a Soldotna hotel: A hotel costs less per night, but you have no kitchen, no fish cleaning station, no freezer, no dock, and you're driving 15-30 minutes to fishing access every day. You'll spend more on dining out, more on processing, and more on gas than the nightly difference.

Vs a $10,000/week all-inclusive lodge: You get the same fish, the same water, and the same Alaska — you just cook your own meals, coordinate your own guide bookings (with our help), and drive yourself to town. If you're OK with that, you save 40-60% and keep the flexibility to plan your own days.

Vs DIY camping: You get hot showers, real beds, a kitchen, a dock, and gear you don't have to haul. For the extra cost, you get a week that your spouse and kids actually enjoy.
