Beyond the Fishing · Kenai Peninsula, Alaska

Not everyone in your group is coming to fish — and that’s not a problem. The Kenai Peninsula is one of the most activity-rich corners of Alaska. Glaciers, fjords, bears, birds, mountains, and the ocean are all within a short drive of Marlow’s. Whether you’re the non-angler in a mixed group, traveling as a couple or family, or just want a day off the water, we’ll line it up for you.

Glaciers & Ice Fields

Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park is a two-hour drive from the lodge and offers everything from a gentle paved walk to the ice to a full-day Harding Icefield hike for fit guests. Helicopter glacier landings and guided ice field walks on Grewingk or Godwin Glacier round out the options for guests who want to stand on, climb, or fly over Alaska ice.

Kenai Fjords & Resurrection Bay Wildlife Cruises

Kenai Fjords National Park day cruises out of Seward are one of the most consistent wildlife experiences on the peninsula — humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, puffins, and calving tidewater glaciers on a single trip. Half-day and full-day cruise options are available; we coordinate the booking and timing.

Bear Viewing

Brown bear viewing flights into Katmai National Park, Lake Clark, or Redoubt Bay are a bucket-list Alaska experience — watching coastal brown bears fish for salmon from a distance of 50–100 yards. Single-day fly-outs leave from Homer, Soldotna, or Kenai and can be built into any week at the lodge.

Alaska SeaLife Center

The Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward is Alaska’s only public aquarium and wildlife rescue facility, with touch tanks, underwater viewing, puffin habitat, and Stellar sea lion encounters. A great half-day for families with younger kids and a natural pairing with a Kenai Fjords cruise.

Kayaking & Paddling

Sea kayaking in Resurrection Bay or Kachemak Bay puts you on the water at eye level with sea otters, puffins, and bald eagles. Guided half-day and full-day trips are available for all skill levels — no prior kayaking experience required.

Flightseeing & Scenic Flights

A one-hour scenic flight out of Soldotna or Kenai covers more Alaska in an afternoon than most guests see in a week. Volcanoes, glaciers, remote lakes, and coastal wildlife from the air — and a great option for guests who can’t commit to a full-day fly-out fishing trip.

Birding on the Kenai

Bald eagles, sandhill cranes, Arctic terns, trumpeter swans, and dozens of migratory shorebirds make the Kenai Peninsula a world-class birding destination. You don’t need to leave the property to start — bring binoculars to the fire pit at dusk.

Hiking & Day Drives

From short interpretive walks at Russian River Falls to full-day hikes on Skilak Lookout or Fuller Lakes Trail, the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge sits right next door. The drive down the Sterling Highway to Homer is itself one of the most beautiful road trips in Alaska.

Let Us Plan It

You don’t have to figure out which operator to call or when to go. Tell us who’s in your group, what they’re excited about, and we’ll build an itinerary that works around the fishing days (or replaces them entirely for non-anglers). Every activity above pairs well with a guided river day or a charter — or can fill an entire week on its own.
